A sandwich shop that’s gone viral on the internet and regularly sells out has announced that its time at its current address in Toronto is coming to an end.

Uncle Pete’s Bread Co. has been going viral and selling out for its unique take on sandwiches, sold out of a tiny, almost hidden location.

The secret to the success of Uncle Pete’s Bread Co. is, as the name suggests, the delicious fresh-baked focaccia that all of its sandwiches are served on. The little shop has been serving up a tight but beloved menu of about three sandwiches.

There’s The OG with whipped lemon ricotta, mortadella, prosciutto, soppressata, chilli crisp, and arugula topped with balsamic glaze, The Pesto Pete with whipped lemon ricotta, basil pesto and heirloom tomatoes, and The Cure with mozzarella, all-beef patties, Chef Lou’s famous house-made marinara topped with Greek yogurt pesto crema, and finished with mild chilli crisp.

Uncle Pete’s has also been serving up a walk-in-only special called The Chino with a whole mozzarella-stuffed arancini, topped with house-made mild hot honey and finished with Chef Lou’s marinara.

“Toronto! First off, we wanted to say thank you for all the support – the outpouring of love and kindness that has come out way over the past eight months has been incredibly humbling,” reads a post on social media.

“Unfortunately, we’ve hit a bit of a snag when it comes to leases, renewals and finding a new home for the business within a compressed timeframe.”

The post has gained over 400 likes and over 50 comments on Instagram.

“Kensington lost a good one but we know you’re going to come back stronger! Can’t wait for what’s to come,” commented fellow viral Toronto sandwich shop Bear Steak.

While the days are dwindling quickly for Uncle Pete’s operations as a sandwich shop in the quirky neighbourhood of Kensington Market, there may be hope for those who are sorry to see the store’s location go in that area.

“If you were hankering for an Uncle Pete’s sandwich make sure you come down to support! We will keep our regular hours until the final day,” the social media post from Uncle Pete’s continues.

“For now, Uncle Pete is gonna go for a little nap but we’ll try to update you guys as soon as possible!”

The last day for Uncle Pete’s Bread Co. will be Saturday, April 25.
