One of the oldest diners in Mississauga, which was also among the top spots in the city to grab a smoked meat sandwich by many accounts, has closed its doors for good.

Montreal Delicatessen & Family Restaurant, which for nearly four decades was located on Dundas St. E. near Mississauga’s eastern boundary with Toronto, is no longer feeding hungry and appreciative customers.

A 2015 story that appeared on insauga.com, Top 5 Smoked Meat Sandwiches in Mississauga, noted that visiting the family restaurant was “like walking into a time warp to the ’80s.”

And make no mistake–that was a compliment.

They offered wide food choices including sandwiches, souvlaki, vegetable and fruit trays and of course pickles.

The story concluded by suggesting the restaurant was “doing something right if they are still around serving loyal customers 40 years after their doors first opened.”
