CLOSURE: Bar shuts down after decades in Toronto

A bar located in a prime area of Toronto has closed its doors for good.

Bier Markt announced in a social media post Tuesday that it has shut down.

“To our loyal Bier Markt Esplanade guests, we have officially closed our doors at 58 The Esplanade,” the post said.

“We thank you for the decades of memories and the privilege of hosting you for so many years.”

A reason for the closure wasn’t provided.

The bar was located in a busy area of Toronto, not too far from the Distillery District, Union Station, Scotiabank Arena, the CN Tower and the Rogers Centre.

Its website says it had three bars, two patios and a beer garden.

“It has been an honour to be part of this community. Thank you for everything,” the post said.

Now, there’s only one Bier Markt left in Ontario and it’s not close to Toronto.

It’s in Ottawa, at 156 Sparks Street.

Meanwhile, another downtown Toronto establishment is set to close it’s doors in the coming weeks.

Prenup Pub, located at at 191 College Street near the University of Toronto, will shut down on Feb. 8.
