After 10 Beer Stores shut down for good on Sunday, the company just announced yet another round of closures that’s set to happen in November.
Numerous Beer Stores have already shut down in Ontario and now seven more stores will be added to that list on Nov. 16.
The company has already announced plans for more closures later this month on Sept. 28, on Oct. 19, and on Nov. 2.
Last year, Ontario’s alcohol marketplace expanded greatly, allowing thousands of convenience stores, as well as additional grocery stores, to sell booze, except for spirits.

The Beer Store attributes its closures to the new marketplace.
“Selling beer and collecting empties in Ontario is changing as part of marketplace expansion,” said Ozzie Ahmed, the vice president of retail at The Beer Store.
“To meet the needs of an evolving retail market, The Beer Store is making the difficult decision to close retail locations and is committed to meeting the requirements of the early implementation agreement. We know this is difficult news for consumers, recyclers and our employees.”
The government signed an agreement with The Beer Store providing up to $225 million to help the company make a stable transition, protect jobs and ensure the availability of bottle return and recycling.
Part of the agreement includes keeping at least 300 stores open until Dec. 31.
The Beer Store said that starting Jan. 1, all grocery stores that sell alcohol will be required to accept empties and refund customer deposits.
