CLOSURE: 4 Beer Store locations shutting down this weekend in Ontario

Four locations of The Beer Store are set to close in Ontario this weekend.

It will mark the latest round of closures for the company amid the province’s expanded alcohol marketplace, in which alcohol products can be sold at many more locations, like convenience stores, for instance.

“We are making the tough decision to close these retail stores…. The retail marketplace in Ontario continues to evolve and stabilize. As a business, we are focused on operating a retail network that meets evolving consumer needs, providing the largest selection of beer and a world-class deposit return system,” said Ozzie Ahmed, the vice president of retail at The Beer Store.

Most recently, on Jan. 18, one Beer Store closed in Oshawa.

Prior to that, on Jan. 11, three locations closed — one each in Haliburton, Schomberg, and Whitby.

And coming up this Sunday, four stores will close, with one each in Brampton, Etobicoke, Hamilton, and London.

Here is a look at the locations that will be closing at the end of the business day on Sunday:

• Brampton – 11 Worthington Avenue
• Etobicoke – 1735 Kipling Avenue
• Hamilton – 75 Centennial Parkway North
• London – 1727 Richmond Street

Ahmed noted that there will still Beer Stores open in those markets.

The Beer Store provided a list of alternative stores in each location. Here’s a look at those:
