CLOSURE: 10 Beer Store locations shutting down this week in Ontario

Ten locations of The Beer Store will be shutting down this upcoming Sunday.

It will mark the latest round of closures amid the expanded alcohol marketplace in Ontario.

Numerous stores have already shut down now that consumers are able to purchase alcoholic beverages at many locations like convenience stores, for instance.

After this Sunday, a number of other closures are still planned.

“Modernizing operations in a changing marketplace is never easy. We know this will be difficult news for customers and employees,” said Ozzie Ahmed, vice president of retail at The Beer Store in a news release regarding the Aug. 10 closures.

The government signed an agreement with The Beer Store providing up to $225 million to help the company make a stable transition, protect jobs and ensure the availability of bottle return and recycling.

Part of the new agreement includes keeping at least 300 stores open until Dec. 31.

The Beer Store said that starting Jan. 1, all grocery stores that sell alcohol will be required to accept empties and refund customer deposits.

Here’s a look at the 10 locations that will be closing at the end of the business day on Sunday, Aug. 10: 

• Mississauga – 2925 Eglinton Avenue West
• Mississauga – 3154 Hurontario Street
• Mississauga – 65 Queen Street North
• Scarborough – 2934 Finch Avenue East
• Vaughan – 1470 Major Mackenzie Drive
• Tottenham – 55 Queen Street
• Oakville – 1431 Rebecca Street
• Cambridge – 130 Cedar Street
• Amherstview – 4501 Bath Road
• Iroquois Falls – 227 Cambridge Avenue
