Ryan Gouveia won more than $266,000 in the Jan. 6 LOTTO 6/49 draw

A windfall of $266,000 may not be enough to retire to “the Hamptons” but it was certainly enough for a lucky man who already lives in Hampton, a community in Clarington in Durham Region.

Ryan Gouveia, 43, won a LOTTO 6/49 second prize worth $266,262.10 in the January 6 draw LOTTO 6/49 draw.

Gouveia is a weekly lottery player and typically plays LOTTO 6/49 and LOTTO MAX. “This is my first big win,” he shared while at the OLG Prize Centre in Toronto to pick up his winnings.

The skilled trade worker said he had made a quick stop stopped at the store when he decided to check his ticket on the self-checker. “I didn’t notice the amount. I checked it again and paid closer attention to the numbers and thought, ‘Are you kidding me?'” he recalled. “When I told my wife about the win, she was so surprised. It was a surreal experience.”

Gouveia plans to use his win to invest in his children’s education, do something special for his wife and treat his family to a fun vacation.

“This is wonderful and overwhelming. My mind is racing with opportunities.”

LOTTO 6/49 offers players a chance to win two multi-million dollar jackpots every Wednesday and Saturday, for the same $3 per play. The Classic Draw offers a fixed $5 million jackpot for every draw, while the Gold Ball Draw guarantees a $1 million prize, or the growing jackpot that starts at $10 million and can exceed $60 million.

The winning ticket was purchased at Circle K on Taunton Road in Whitby.
