City of Hamilton, Mohawk, McMaster listed among top Hamilton-Niagara employers in 2022

The City of Hamilton, McMaster and Mohawk have been listed among 2022’s top employers in the Hamilton-Niagara area.

The list also names several other big local employers including Dofasco, Hamilton Health Sciences HHS), St. Joseph’s Healthcare Hamilton and Hamilton Oshawa Port Authority among others.

Hamilton-Niagara’s Top Employers, now in its 15th year, is organized by the editors of Canada’s Top 100 Employers, which is published by Mediacorp Canada Inc., and recognizes employers in the Hamilton-Niagara area that lead their industries in offering exceptional places to work.

Workplaces are assessed and selected based on eight criteria: (1) Physical Workplace; (2) Work Atmosphere & Social; (3) Health, Financial & Family Benefits; (4) Vacation & Time Off; (5) Employee Communications; (6) Performance Management; (7) Training & Skills Development; and (8) Community Involvement.

“It’s an honour to be recognized as a Top Regional Employer in the Hamilton-Niagara Region for the seventh year running,” said City manager, Janette Smith, in a press release.

“This year, more than ever, the City is proud to acknowledge and recognize our dedicated, committed employees who have gone above and beyond to continue providing public service, while undertaking a sustained emergency and public health response, and supporting our most vulnerable residents during the COVID-19 pandemic.”

The City of Hamilton was singled out for its retirement planning, pension, parental leave top-ups and flexible work arrangements.

Hamilton’s health-care providers, St. Joe’s and HHS were also singled out for their generous benefits packages and employee engagement initiatives as well as their wellness supports.

McMaster University and Mohawk College were noted for benefits and time-off and employee engagement.

The annual competition is open to any employer with its head office in the Hamilton-Niagara area. Employers of any size may apply, whether private or public sector.
