Chick-fil-A opens 2 new locations in Ontario

The U.S. chain Chick-fil-A will open two new locations in Ontario in January.

The fast food franchise opened its first Canadian store in downtown Toronto in September 2019 and since then has continued to grow.

A location opened in 2023 in Square One Shopping Centre in Mississauga, and Appleby Crossing plaza in Burlington in 2024.

The new restaurants in Ontario are in Cambridge Centre and the Rideau Centre in Ottawa, according to a press release from Chick-fil-A.

The two new locally-owned and operated restaurants will create approximately 170 jobs combined, the release stated.

Both restaurants will offer dine-in and take-out, with Chick-fil-A Cambridge Centre also offering drive-through service.

The Cambridge Chick-fil-A will open in the mall at 405 Hespeler Road on Jan. 16. The restaurant will be open from 10:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday through Saturday.

Olivia O’Brien (nee Efford) is the independent franchised owner-operator. O’Brien is also the owner-operator of Chick-fil-A Kitchener and will be Chick-fil-A’s second multi-restaurant owner-operator in Canada.

The Ottawa location opens today, Jan. 9, in the food court of the mall at 50 Rideau St.

It will be open from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Saturday.

Hussein Tohme is the independent franchised owner-operator. Tohme is from the Ottawa community and has a background managing food and beverage teams for several national restaurant chains.

Chick-fil-A has a goal to open 20 stores in Canada by 2025 and is now ahead of schedule, the chain said.

The restaurant is known for its original Chick-fil-A Chicken Sandwich, which is made with boneless breast of chicken with no added fillers. The breaded chicken is pressure-cooked in refined peanut oil.

The grilled spicy deluxe sandwich returns this month along with a new menu offering, key lime beverages. Both available in Canada for a limited time, starting Jan. 7.

Most Chick-fil-A restaurants are owned and operated by a single individual, which means owner-operators are small business owners, not passive investors, who work in their restaurants, according to the chain’s website.
