The cherry blossoms are back in Burlington!

Beautiful pink and white blooms are now on full display at two locations in the city, but time is of the essence when it come to viewing.

At Spencer Smith Park, the cherry trees were met with large crowds this past weekend and are expected to be at their peak this week,

As well, the Royal Botanical Gardens (RBG) reports the trees located at its site are in prime viewing mode.

“Peak bloom!” the RBG declares on its website. “These iconic blooms are fleeting and won’t last long, so plan your visit soon.”

According to the RBG, flowering cherry trees have a long history, especially in Japan where the blossoms are celebrated each year.

“Every year flowering times are recorded and noted and this has occurred for around the past 1,300 years. RBG also annually records the flowering times of its Cherries as part of a biological science known as phenology which is an important tool in helping to track climate change.”

In 2010, RBG added 34 trees to its collection. These trees are planted at both the Arboretum and Rock Garden sites.

The Royal Botanical Gardens are located at 680 Plains Road West.
