A new kind of food festival is coming to Burlington this weekend.

The inaugural Vegfest is being held Saturday, Aug. 20, at Burloak Waterfront Park, 5420 Lakeshore Dr., between Burloak Drive and Hampton Heath Road.

More than 30 food vendors are expected at the event, which will run from noon to 7 p.m.

In addition to the multitude of vegetarian, vegan and cruelty-free offerings, there will also be several booths focusing on things like important causes, animal sanctuaries, beauty, skin care and fashion, home decor and candles, and wellness and health.

Entertainment will be provided by Stephanie Braganza, a powerhouse vocalist whose performances helped her win a Toronto Independent Music Award for Best Live Artist.

She has performed in a wide array of settings throughout her career, including a private event at the Art Gallery of Ontario which was attended by former president George W. Bush, and at the MuchMusic Video Awards.

An outspoken animal rights activist, her latest music video Chains of Silence has won Global Music awards for Best Female Vocalist and Best Music Video, and has received support from Tony Kanal (No Doubt) and PETA.

The event is being organized by Toronto Pig Save, a local, grassroots vegan animal rights group founded in 2010.
