Celebrate arts and culture in Oshawa with Culture Days

Culture Days in Oshawa will kick off Saturday with an artist talk at the new Ed Broadbent Park on the waterfront and a variety of family-friendly activities at the South Oshawa Community Centre.
“Culture Days is a great opportunity for our community to come together and celebrate art, culture and heritage,” said Mayor Dan Carter. “I encourage everyone to take part and discover and experience Oshawa’s rich history.”
Photographer Shay Conroy will be discussing her outdoor photography exhibit Port of Prosper, featuring large-scale photographs that explore the industrial side of Oshawa’s waterfront, at the Ed Broadbent Waterfront Park on Harbour Road between 10:30 and 11:30 Saturday morning, followed by everything from a peony painting workshop to interactive booths at the South Oshawa Community Centre just to the west of the park.
The interactive booths, which will be open to the public from 11:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., will be presented by We Grow Food, the Oshawa Museum and Oshawa Public Libraries.
The Chinese peony painting workshop with local artist Ting Chen will be one of two artist-initiated projects that will require pre-registration ([email protected]) to participate. The other project is a drip mural and augmented reality experience and artist talk with artist duo Amy Shackleton and Julian Brown from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m.
“The City of Oshawa is proud to once again participate in the national celebration of ‘Culture Days’ showcasing our finest and most creative talent,” said Councillor Tito-Dante Marimpietri, Chair, Economic and Development Services Committee. “Our vibrant community continues to grow its cultural partners year after year, bringing thousands of people from across the GTA … and providing opportunities to learn, explore and create.”
