CAUGHT ON VIDEO: Fire Breaks Out in Mississauga

Police and Mississauga Fire/Emergency services (MFES) are on scene for a fire this evening.

Police received a call just before 7:00 p.m. for a fire in the area of Central Parkway and Wolfedale.

The cause of fire and injuries are presently unknown.

Residents are asked by police to avoid the area.

Road closures include Mavis southbound at Burnhamthorpe, Central Parkway at Wolfedale, and Central Parkway at Mavis.


UPDATE: (8:13 p.m.) Police report that the fire is still active. Neighbouring businesses are being evacuated as a precaution. There is no report of injuries or anyone trapped at this time.

Officers are blocking all roads in the area. Residents should expect major delays.

Mississauga Fire is advising local residents to keep their windows and doors shut, as the smoke is becoming very thick.


UPDATE: (6:02 a.m. Friday) Wolfdale Road remains closedPolice report between Westlock Road and Central Parkway. Mavis Road has re-opened.


UPDATE: (7:52 a.m. Friday) The fire is contained to Eagle Tech Recycling on Mavis Road. MFES will likely remain on scene for most of the day.

All roads are open except for Wolfedale. Police are permitting only local traffic to the area.


UPDATE: 10:00 a.m.: The city says the scrapyard fire is under control. Mississauga Fire and Emergency Services (MFES) remain on scene and have managed to control the fire. The smoke in the area has cleared. People are still advised to avoid this area. MFES have determined that the fire occurred at 3378 Mavis Rd., a metal recycling facility – which is directly adjacent to 3402 Mavis Rd., an auto scrapyard.

Wolfdale Road is closed between Central Parkway W. and Dundas Street. Peel Regional Police are permitting only local traffic that have to access this area. There are currently no injuries to report. No buildings in the immediate area have been impacted.

The Ministry of Environment is monitoring the air quality and has determined it to be at a safe level.
