UPDATE: Car crash shutters major road in Whitby

UPDATE 3:30 p.m: The roadway is now open once more.
A car crash has shut down a major road in Whitby.
The crash occurred on Rossland Road between Civic Centre Drive and Garden Street. The area is a very busy section of downtown Whitby home to the Durham Regional Headquarters and multiple large commercial plazas.
The crash has shut down this nearly 700-metre stretch of road for the next while as the Durham Police Collision Investigation Unit surveys the scene.
Police advise motorists to avoid the area until further notice.
Investigators have not confirmed what vehicles were involved in the crash or the condition of any occupants.
