Canada Day fireworks complaints double from 2025 celebrations in Brampton

There were nearly 50 firework complaints made on Canada Day this year in Brampton, more than double the number after last year’s rowdy displays in Chinguacousy Park.

The City of Brampton confirmed to INsauga.com that there were 713 service requests made to 311 on Wednesday, with 45 of those calls related to fireworks.

That’s around six per cent of the total calls to 311 on July 1, a city spokesperson says.

Only one penalty notice related to fireworks was issued under the city’s fireworks bylaw on Canada Day this year, and the city says additional investigations are underway “which may result in enforcement action.”

And while the number of fireworks-related calls was small on July 1 compared to the overall number of 311 calls, the number of Canada Day fireworks complaints in 2026 was more than double than last year.

Of the more than 2,500 311 calls on Canada Day in 2025, just 21 were for fireworks complaints – down from around 105 in 2024.

The city spent more than $200,000 on enhanced security measures for this year’s event as part of an effort to manage large crowds and prevent dangerous behaviour inside the park after Canada Day celebrations at Chinguacousy Park in 2025 that saw serious public safety concerns, including groups of young people setting off fireworks within the crowd and at each other during the evening festivities.

Brampton banned all personal fireworks after bylaw enforcement handed out more than $38,000 in fireworks fines in all of 2022. Brampton Fire and Emergency Services says firefighters responded to 20 fires related to fireworks that cost taxpayers approximately $20,000.

Complaints on special events have mostly been on the decline since the ban was introduced.
