Burlington tennis phenom making waves at Wimbledon, off to quarter-finals

Two of the top young female tennis players are in the world are Canadian and Burlington’s Victoria Mboko hopes to join them soon.

Bianca Andreescu and Leylah Fernandez are leading the way on the international circuit, and Mboko isn’t far behind, making waves in the Junior Ladies division at Wimbledon.

Mboko, just 15 years old, and already the fifth-seed, knocked off Olivia Lincer of Poland in Round 3 and will now face Isabella Kruger of South Africa in the quarter-finals.

Earlier, Mboko defeated a pair of UK players, Sofia Johnson in Round 1 and Ella McDonald in Round 2.

In addition to her singles run, she and partner Kayla Cross (who was ranked 13th in singles), are teaming up in the doubles, a formidable Canadian duo who knocked off a team from Kazakhstan in Round 1.
