Burlington man faces bank robbery charge after chase

A 21-year-old from Burlington is among three charged following a robbery and a chase by police along Highway 401.

A 21-year-old from Burlington is among three charged following a robbery and a chase by police along Highway 401.

The Burlington man has been charged with robbery with a firearm. He has been released with the promise of appearing in court. His name has not been released.

The incident began in Waterloo and Wednesday around 3:30 p.m. following reports of a bank robbery.

Waterloo Regional Police contacted the OPP who picked up the chase on the highway as the suspects headed eastbound. After becoming involved in a collision, the OPP gave up the chase.

Eventually the suspect vehicle got of the 401 in Mississauga and drove to a residential neighbourhood where Peel Regional Police and the OPP surrounded them and made the arrests, three hours after it all began. An OPP officer received minor injuries as a result of the earlier collision.

Aside from the Burlington man, three teenagers also face robbery charges.
