Burlington Fire Prevention Week focuses on cooking fires

Forgetting that you have something cooking on the stove is the leading cause of fires in the home, and the Burlington Fire Department wants to make sure that doesn’t happen to you.

As part of Fire Prevention Week, the department is embarking on a campaign of education and reminders to make sure that Burlington homeowners don’t fall victim to this preventable accident.

According to The Office of the Fire Marshal, the number one ignition source involved in residential fire injuries is cooking equipment, accounting for 38 per cent of the injuries.

The Burlington Fire Department hopes to educate through the Fire Prevention Week Challenge where prizes will be available.

The Burlington Fire Department – Fire Prevention Week Challenge opens on Sunday October 4, 2020 at 12:01 a.m. and closes on October 10, 2020 at 11:59 p.m.
