It was the sweet science that baptized the Arena at the Pickering Casino Resort on January 28 but it will the sweet sounds of rock n roll that will officially launch the newly renovated arena on April 26 when legendary Canadian rocker Bryan Adams comes to town as part of a coast-to-coast tour in support of his 15th studio album, So Happy it Hurts.
United Promotions, which will return to the casino arena three days after the Bryan Adams show with another explosive boxing card, ‘unofficially’ opened the venue in late January with a card headlined by a couple of local fighters but workers have been busy since then putting the finishing touches on the 2,500-seat arena.
Grammy and Juno Award-winning Adams will be the first performer to put the venue through its acoustic paces.
One of the most engaging live performers today with his electrifying vocals and stage presence, Bryan Adams’ music has achieved #1 status more than 40 countries with a musical influence that stretches back four decades.
His 14th album, Shine a Light, with a title track co-written by Ed Sheeran, debuted at number one on the album charts when it was released in March of 2019.
In addition to his Grammy Award and multiple Junos, Adams’ song writing has also earned him three Academy Award nominations and five Golden Globe nominations.
Considered one of the most iconic rock musicians in the world, Adams has sold more than 100 million records and singles worldwide, with 25 top-15 singles in Canada and a dozen more in the U.S., U.K. and Australia.
He rose to fame in North America with the 1983 Cuts Like a Knife, featuring its title track and the ballad Straight From the Heart, his first US top ten hit. His 1984 Canadian and US number one album, Reckless, (which became the first album by a Canadian to be certified diamond in Canada), made him a global superstar with tracks like Run to You and Summer of ’69.
Subsequent hits such as Heat of the Night and (Everything I Do) I Do For You – which sold 15 million copies worldwide – affirmed his place on the rock ‘n roll pantheon.
Adams was last in the area in October when he performed at Oshawa’s Tribute Communities Centre.
General ticket prices start at $149 and go on sale to the public March 17.
