Brock St. Downtown revitalization project launched in Whitby

The Town of Whitby wants to know what residents are looking to see in the years-long revitalization project along Brock Street downtown.
The project will follow Brock Street from the Highway 401 exit to the Maple Street intersection. “Is it landscaping, a vibrant entertainment space for community events, free public Wi-Fi, smooth sidewalks for strollers and mobility devices, traffic calming measures to ensure a safer street for pedestrians, cyclists, and motorists,” the town asked. “Or something else?”
The project “will develop a vision and create a concept design to support a more walkable, beautiful space. The design will consider pedestrians, cyclists, vehicles, businesses and the community,” the town wrote.
The town launched an online survey about the revitalization project on March 25, which will remain active until April 19. The survey asks nine questions, mostly pertaining to the participant’s connection to town, and how often they travel along Brock. St.
It then asks residents of their top 10 priorities for the project such as;

- bike lanes
- greenery
- new trees
- public performance (busker) spaces
- more parking
- patios
- free wi-fi, and nurmous other options.
Toward the end of the survey period, the town is also hosting an open house for residents to discuss the plans. It will be held on April 10 and requires online registration.
The design stage of the project will continue throughout much of 2024. Following this basic design stage, the town will develop a more specific and detailed construction plan. By 2026, construction will be underway.
