It’s official: Federal NDP Leader Jagmeet Singh has won his bid for the British Columbia riding of Burnaby South.

By leading with 38.2 per cent, Singh secured his seat at the House of Commons and saw his grip on the party’s leadership all but secured, in one of three federal byelections that took place on Monday, February 25.

With victory also comes heartfelt loss, however, as the longtime NDP-held Montreal riding of Outremont was lost to Liberal candidate Rachel Bendayan. That seat was held by former NDP leader Tom Mulcair.

Meanwhile, in the Ontario riding of York-Simcoe, Conservative Scot Davidson easily won with 52 per cent of the votes.

Singh's victory will allow him to be in Parliament as an MP, months before the upcoming federal election this October.
