Brampton resident charged twice in one week after stolen vehicle investigation in Milton

Caledon OPP have recovered a stolen vehicle and charged a resident from Brampton who was arrested for a similar offence just five days earlier.
On Tuesday, Sept. 6, OPP were alerted that a commercial motor vehicle was stolen out of the Milton area.
“The vehicle (the tractor part) travelled to the Town of Caledon and stole a trailer loaded with furniture,” said police. “Officers located the vehicle, but the driver failed to stop.”
Black spray paint was reportedly used on the vehicle to cover the company name.
The Caledon Community Street Crime Unit (CSCU) was engaged and successfully arrested the driver in Brampton.
Officers recovered the stolen 2008 Volvo transport truck and the stolen trailer, along with its load of furniture.
They also seized two grams of suspected heroin, vehicle master keys and fobs for transport trucks, two pieces of stolen identity documents, and stolen personal items including tools and a cell phone.
44 year old Jasvinder Atwal was arrested and charged with:
- Theft of motor vehicle
- Dangerous operation of a motor vehicle
- Flight from peace officer
- Theft over $5000
- Mischief
- Possession of property obtained by crime over $5000
- Possession of identify document
- Possession of automobile master key
- Possession of a Schedule I substance – heroin
- Fail to comply with undertaking, two counts
- Fail to comply with probation
- Operation while prohibited under the Criminal Code
- Fail to company with release order
Atwal had been arrested a few days prior after officers allegedly found Atwal and another person sleeping inside a stolen transport truck in Caledon.
The accused was held for a Bail Hearing at the Ontario Court of Justice in Orangeville.
