Two charged after Caledon OPP recover transport truck stolen in Brampton

A transport truck that was stolen in Brampton was soon recovered in Caledon by OPP, leading to charges against two people.

Around 12:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 1, a general patrol officer came across a transport truck parked on the shoulder of Merchant Road in Caledon.

It was noted that the trailer had no plates.

The officer approached the vehicle and found two people sleeping inside.

“Once awoken, demands were ignored and the vehicle was put into motion in an attempt to flee, striking a police cruiser. The driver and passenger were placed under arrest,” said police.

No injuries were reported.

Police say it was later discovered that the tractor and trailer were stolen that morning in the area of Airport Road and Mayfield Road in Brampton.

44 year old Jasvinder Atwal from Brampton and 30 year old Navtej Singh from North York are charged with possession of break-in instruments, three counts of property obtained by crime over $5,000, and property obtained by crime under $5,000.

Atwal is additionally charged with dangerous operation, flight from peace officer, assaulting a peace officer, mischief, operation while prohibited under the Criminal Code, failure to comply with undertaking, and two counts of failure to comply with a release order.

“Caledon OPP is working actively with its various partners to combat the growing trend of auto thefts in the Region and across the province. If you observe unusual activity in your community, report it immediately to police by calling 911,” police advised.
