Brampton man wanted on Canada-wide warrant

Investigators with Peel police have issued a Canada-wide warrant for a Brampton man who is facing on trial on serious charges that relate to a fatal crash last summer.

The Peel Regional Police’s major collision bureau has issued the warrant for the arrest of 25-year-old Kamaljit Singh. The police say he has refused to comply with the terms of his release conditions since being arrested and charged, and that his whereabouts are unknown.

Around 5 a.m. on July 3, a violent collision occurred between two vehicles in the intersection of Hurontario Street and Sandalwood Parkway in Brampton. The victim, a 59-year-old man from Brampton, was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Singh was operating the other vehicle. The police say that he failed to remain at the collision, leaving two passengers in his vehicle.

One passenger was a 25-year-old man from Brampton who was taken to a trauma centre with serious injuries. The second passenger was a 23-year-old man from Guelph who suffered non-life threatening injuries.

Police located Kamaljit Singh a short time later and charged him with the following offences:

  • Impaired operation causing death
  • Failure to stop after an accident resulting in death
  • Operation while impaired, causing bodily harm
  • Failure to stop after an accident resulting in bodily harm
    • Impaired operation causing death carries a maximum sentence of life imprisonment in Canada.
