Brampton man faces serious charges in relation to pedestrian death

A 19-year-old man has been arrested, and charged, in relation to a collision last month that resulted in the death of a 71-year-old Brampton man.

The Peel Regional Police announced that investigators with its major collision bureau arrested the man, but did not name him or the deceased.

On Aug. 31, at 7:54 p.m., two cars collided at the intersection of Countryside Drive and Mountainash Road in Brampton. One of the vehicles mounted the curb due to the force of the collision on the southeast corner of Countryside and struck the 71-year-old man.

The victim was taken to a trauma centre in life-threatening condition and recently died as a result of his injuries.

The 19-year-old man was charged last Friday (Sept. 24). He faces two counts:

  • Dangerous operation causing bodily harm
  • Dangerous operation causing death

The latter offence is punishable by a sentence of up to 14 years.

The accused’s next court date is in Brampton in December.
