Brampton councillor re-elected to term on FCM board of directors

Brampton Regional Councillor Rowena Santos was re-elected to the Federation of Canadian Municipalities (FCM) board at the organization’s annual general meeting last week.
The Federation of Canadian Municipalities announced Santos has been re-elected to its Board of Directors for a one-year term, from 2021-2022.
FCM has been the national voice of Canada’s municipal government since 1901. Members include more than 2,000 municipalities from across the country, representing more than 90 per cent of all Canadians. The conference, held virtually this year from May 31 to June 4, provided an opportunity for the City of Brampton to set FCM policy on key issues and to advocate for support and funding from the federal government.
Among the key issues the FCM is seeking support from the federal government are: work on a successor agreement to the Safe Restart Agreement, including funding to Transit operations; a commitment to an inter-regional, higher-order transit network; sustainable funding to implement active transportation infrastructure and programs; investments and policy changes to advance climate change adaption and resilience; and investments in economic development and recovery, such as an investment in the Rogers Cybersecure Catalyst.
“It’s an honour to serve on the FCM Board of Directors for another term with a team of municipal leaders from across the country,” said Santos. “At FCM, we are squarely focused on strengthening all our partnerships and I will continue to advocate on key priorities for Brampton residents including our economic recovery and climate change goals. We will continue to explore what our cities and residents need to move forward through the pandemic and build a better future.”
