Brampton continues seeing drop in social gatherings, Mayor Brown says city seeing ‘broad compliance’

At a November 12 conference, Mayor Patrick Brown provided a bylaw update that indicated a drop in social gatherings amid the ongoing COVID-19 crisis in Brampton.

According to Brown, this past week, officers laid 11 charges under the mandatory face-covering bylaw as well as 28 charges for failing to comply with the Reopening of Ontario Act.

Additionally, he said there were two social gatherings that resulted in fines.

“Once again we’re seeing broad compliance,” said Brown.

“There was a time in the summer we were dealing with literally 100 social gatherings in a week.”

Over the course of the summer, several social gathering incidents occurred in Brampton during the COVID-19 pandemic, including a house party back in July that had around 200 people in attendance.

“We have come a long way,” concluded Brown.
