Boy rescued from storm management pond in Milton has died: Halton Police

Halton Regional Police have confirmed that an 11-year-old boy has died after falling through the ice on a storm management pond in Milton on Saturday (Dec. 19).
At around 2:30 p.m., emergency crews were called to an area near Reece Court in Milton. Reports came in that two boys had ventured onto the ice on a nearby storm management pond and both boys fell through the thin ice, one boy was able to remove himself from the pond after trying to help the other boy.

According to police, the boy ran to a neighbouring home and emergency services were called.
Upon arrival, officers and members of Milton Fire, Halton Police Marine Unit and Halton Paramedics started a search for the boy who was still in the water.
He was located 15 minutes later and life-saving measures were initiated, police said. The boy was transported to hospital in life-threatening condition where he died a short time later.
“The Halton Regional Police Service are deeply saddened to report the 11-year-old boy rescued from the storm management pond in Milton has succumbed to his injuries,” an update from police said.
“The child passed away at Milton District Hospital shortly after 4 p.m. despite the lifesaving efforts of first responders and Milton District Hospital Emergency Medical Unit.”
