A large number of customers in the Crown Point East and West neighbourhoods of Hamilton are without power this afternoon (Sept. 5) after a transformer blew in the area.

Reports say a loud crash was heard before residents on Ottawa St. N. just north of Dunsmore started to notice a slight burning smell.

Alectra Utilities specifies that the outage is affecting 510 customers in the area of Barton St. E. and Main St. E. and between Gage Ave. S and Kenilworth Ave. N.

Hamilton Police as well as the Hamilton Fire Department were on scene before Alectra crews arrived.

The current estimated time for power restoration is 8 p.m. this evening (Sept 5).
