The Beer Store will be temporarily changing how much it pays for empties in Ontario.
The company says that to mark Earth Day, which is on Wednesday, April 22, consumers can get more money than usual for their empty alcohol containers.
“In celebration of Earth Day, get more for your empties,” the company says.
The Beer Store will be paying 20 per cent more on deposit returns on April 22 at participating locations.
The offer applies to alcohol containers that normally have a 10 or 20 cent deposit value.
Products that have a 10 cent deposit value include bottles that are greater than 100 ml and less or equal to 630 ml, and cans that are greater than 100 ml and less or equal to 1 litre.
A deposit value of 20 cents applies to bottles greater than 630 ml and cans greater than 1 litre.
Kegs are excluded from the Earth Day offer.
“Returning your empties keeps materials in the loop, supports one of the most successful deposit return systems out there, and helps us hit recovery rates as high as 89 per cent for refillable bottles,” The Beer Store said in a recent social media post.
“We take back all alcohol containers, so every can, bottle and secondary packaging you bring in goes right back into the cycle.”
You can find a map of locations to return empties on The Beer Store website.
