Minto Communities broke ground last week on their The Heights of Harmony development in north Oshawa, a project that has already earned the builder a handful of industry awards, including Project of the Year and Green Builder of the Year at the BILD Awards gala last month.

The project, Minto’s second in Oshawa, builds off the success in Markham’s Union Village and sets a precedent on how developers can successfully integrate Net Zero features and keep sustainability as a core value when building homes.

“Today, we realize our vision of bringing more housing options and supply for families, young couples, and first-time homebuyers to Oshawa and the Durham region. We are invested, and that’s because we believe in this community” said Minto Vice-President of Development Vince Santino. “We’re thrilled with the reception of The Heights of Harmony master-planned community to date and we’re looking forward to launching future phases in this idyllic location.”

Minto Communities, which has been building homes in the GTA for 65 years, was recognized at the BILD Awards for the array of sustainable features at the development at Winchester Rd E and Harmony Rd. N in the Kedron neighbourhood, including tree canopies that are creating wildlife habitat, a moderating ‘microclimate’ in the homes and the use of durable and long-lasting materials.

The project also won several awards at this year’s Durham Region Home Builder’s Association (DRHBA) – including the People’s Choice Award. Minto was a four-time winner at the 2021 DRHBA awards and was chosen Home Builder of the Year in 2022.

The Heights of Harmony’s first phase offers 20’ traditional townhomes and single-family homes in 36′ and 43’ in a variety of architectural styles, including the introduction of Minto Communities GTA’s brand-new Modern Farmhouse style, which a contemporary aesthetic, with large picture windows and contrasting architectural features.

A 28-acre park will anchor the community, with a community pond within walking distance of homes. Phase one homeowners have the opportunity to include a Net Zero upgrade to their home, an innovation that helps reduce emissions by as much as 85 per cent. Once complete, The Heights of Harmony community will encompass approximately 800 homes.

Phase two is expected to launch soon, bringing to market back-to-back townhomes for first-time home buyers and rear lane homes for growing families. For more information on The Heights of Harmony and to register for future phases, visit: www.minto.com.
