A man found with multiple stab wounds near Port Perry’s waterfront last month has led to attempted murder charges for two Toronto residents.
Durham Police responded to an armed person call just after 9 p.m. on May 13 in Palmer Park in downtown Port Perry, where a man was discovered suffering from stab wounds.
Officers arrived on scene and administered medical care before the victim was taken to a Toronto trauma centre in serious life-threatening condition. He was later upgraded to stable.
Further investigation revealed the victim was brought to the park by a known woman and police said he was the “ambushed” by the woman and stabbed “several times” by the male suspect, who attempted to force him into a vehicle.
The suspects fled the area after the victim was able to defend himself, police said.
On Wednesday, June 10 investigators located and arrested both suspects without incident in Toronto.
James Leigh Hastings, 36 and Shannon Lois Marjorie Kehoe, 51 – both of Toronto – were both charged with attempted murder.
Hastings was also charged with aggravated assault, forcible confinement, possession of a dangerous weapon and a pair of probation breaches.
At the time of the incident Hastings was on weapons prohibition conditions.
Kehoe was also charged with aggravated assault and forcible confinement.
Both were held for a bail hearing.
Anyone with any information about this incident is asked to contact D/Cst. Ngo of the North Division Criminal Investigations Branch at 1-888-579-1520 ext. 1505.
