April 17 Weather: Showers and a risk of thunder in southern Ontario

The April Showers are set to continue again on April 17 with a risk of thunder.

After a couple of sunny days, the Environment Canada sensors at Pearson Airport predict a new rain system to enter the GTA this afternoon.

The day will begin overcast around 6 a.m. with temperatures at a chilly 6 degrees. This will persist until about 9 a.m. when the chance of rain will jump from 20 per cent to 80 per cent.

The rains are set to continue throughout the day, though temperatures will rise to 10 degrees by 4 p.m.

The 80 per cent risk of rain will continue until about 8 p.m. when the risk jumps to 100 per cent. At this time thunderstorms are predicted to last overnight.

Environment Canada expects between 10 and 20 millimetres of rain throughout the day. By nightfall, fog patches will begin to creep into the GTA.

The rainy weather is set to last until the end of the week. However, the weekend will see clear, sunny skies.
