Developers have been given the approval to build a 12-storey mid-rise apartment in Burlington.

The Ontario Lands Tribunal (OLT) recently agreed to the settlement ruling which will see the building rise on the south side of Plains Rd. E. between Birchwood Ave. and Lasalle Park Rd. The City of Burlington has agreed to the plan.

The building will house 389 residential units and space for commercial use on the ground floor.

The size and housing capacity of the building will be slightly smaller than originally proposed.

According to the OLT ruling, the application was supported because the site is near the Aldershot GO Station, a location that has been designated for increased housing and business density.

At the hearing, the OLT heard from some residents who complained about the size of the project on how it will affect houses in the surrounding neighbourhoods. The Tribunal, however, rejected those concerns in its decision saying the development was appropriate for the area and will not adversely interfere with those in nearby houses.

“The Tribunal reviewed and considered the concerns raised…but is nevertheless satisfied, based upon the uncontradicted land use planning testimony…that the proposed development is representative of good planning and is in the public interest,” the OLT noted in its ruling.
