Clarington has unveiled its Inclusion, Diversity, Equity and Anti-Racism (IDEA) Strategy, which outlines how it will tackle social issues through the next three years as the municipality continues its evolution into a diverse and inclusive community.

Clarington is growing and becoming more diverse and Mayor Adrian Foster hopes the plan will help create and support a “connected, dynamic and welcoming community” focused on the future.

“Everyone deserves to feel included and valued in their community,” Foster said. “We are committed to working towards equality and a better future for us all. Clarington’s IDEA Strategy will help us create a more open and inclusive community where all are welcome. In Clarington, we value equity, diversity, and inclusiveness – and we are that much stronger because of it.”

The IDEA Strategy features measurable actions to foster a sense of belonging and create a more inclusive, equitable and safe community and is one of the core priorities of Clarington’s 2024-27 Strategic Plan.

Action items include developing equity and inclusion lens guidelines for municipal programs, services and initiatives; boosting IDEA training of Municipal staff to effectively serve a growing and diverse population; and providing support to increase diversity and representation in community programs and celebrations.
