Alleged child luring attempt leads to charges: Durham Police

A man has been charged with allegedly attempting to lure a 13-year-old boy into creating child pornography over social media.
The Durham Police Internet Child Exploitation Unit arrested a man on April 15. Investigators allege the man tried to convince a 13-year-old boy to send him explicit images over Snapchat.
This app allows users to send text messages and images to others. The images then automatically delete themselves after a short window. However, the recipient can save the image as a screenshot though the sender is notified.
According to police, their investigation uncovered the possibility other victims had been contacted as well. Police have asked any possible victims to come forward.
Tyler James Croft, 25 of Peterborough, is charged with luring a child under 16 to make child pornography. He has been held in custody until a bail hearing. The charge has not been proven in court.
Police credit the investigation, in part, “the assistance of the Canadian National and Ontario Provincial Strategies to Protect Children from Sexual Abuse and Exploitation on the Internet. This project has been made possible by a grant from the Ministry of the Solicitor General.”
