As fuel prices soar, so do airfare ticket prices to Europe and many other destinations.
After the U.S. and Israel launched airstrikes against Iran, fuel prices have steadily increased.
Air Canada suspended flights between Toronto and Montreal to New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport after jet fuel prices doubled. A more recent block of the Strait of Hormuz has led to shortages, with the head of the International Energy Agency, Fatih Birol, stating last week that Europe has just six weeks of jet fuel left.
Travellers thinking about an overseas trip may want to check out the new Airfare Trends Dashboard from travel search engine, Kayak.
The dashboard offers a weekly view of how flight prices are changing over time using Kayak search data, the company said.
“With week-over-week and year-over-year insights across domestic and international destinations, the tool gives travellers a clear look at how factors like seasonality, fuel costs, and broader macro trends are shaping airfare, so travellers can plan and book with confidence,” Kayak said in a press release.
The charts are updated every Tuesday and show how average flight prices domestically and internationally are changing from week to week.
“Airfare trends are evolving differently across routes, while some are getting more expensive, others are seeing prices decline,” said Kayla DeLoache, Kayak travel trends expert. “Looking at how prices are changing week to week can help travellers make more informed decisions about when and where to travel.”
Comparisons to 2025 show how current airfares compare to the same time last year.
Kayak also charts out popular domestic and international destinations to show how each is evolving over time.
Looking at airfare price changes from the end of March to the first week of April and the dashboard shows price increases for Paris, Rome, Bangkok, Lisbon and London, England. Manila, Montego Bay and Mumbai all saw price drops.
Overall, international and domestic flights are seeing price increases.
As airfare trends continue to shift, travellers may be weighing different ways to get to their destination. Kayak has updated its Trip Calculator with the latest gas prices and airfare data to help compare the cost of flying versus driving.
