Niagara police kill white wolf in Port Colborne after failed capture attempt

When the Niagara Police were alerted to the whereabouts of the missing white Arctic wolf, that had escaped its enclosure in Port Colborne, they were forced to bring it down after a failed capture attempt.

Last night (August 3) at 7 pm, Port Colborne residents started calling having seen the wolf prowling the city’s west side.

Several officers tried to capture the animal with little success and the Niagara Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA), while called, hadn’t arrived on the scene yet.

One property owner told the police that he was concerned about the safety of his own animal so eventually, “due to the wolf being potentially dangerous,” an officer felt there was little choice except to shoot it.

Right now, the SPCA, Niagara Police, City of Port Colborne and the Ministry of Natural Resources are investigating the housing from which the wolf escaped.

The wolf had been rescued from a northern area of Ontario and was living in western Port Colborne in the Main Street West and Cement Road area of the city.

The remains of the wolf are currently with the Niagara SPCA.
