It was recently announced that Burlington Transit will be receiving additional funding to address continuing cost impacts from the COVID-19 pandemic.

In December 2022, the Ontario government announced additional funding of up to $505 million for municipal transit systems across the province as part of Phase 4 of the federal-provincial Safe Restart Agreement (SRA).

The fourth phase of funding will help municipal transit systems address costs related to impacts from the pandemic between Feb. 1, 2022, and Dec. 31, 2022.

The City of Burlington is receiving a total of $1.57 million as part of this funding.

Funding allocations may help municipalities cover revenue losses and operate expenses and provincial transit priority projects, such as fare and service integration and On-Demand transit.

“This is good news for our community and local transit system and will help address the ongoing negative impacts to our transit system as a result of the pandemic,” reads Mayor Marianne Meed Ward’s website.

“Thank you to our upper levels of government for providing this crucial funding to help us in continuing to provide safe and reliable transit to our community.”
