In a tragic turn of events, a body of a man has been retrieved from Lake Ontario along Mississauga’s waterfront this evening (June 14).

This follows earlier reports of a swimmer in distress, which prompted a search and rescue operation.

At approximately 3:40 p.m., emergency crews were dispatched to the Lakefront Promenade area in Mississauga’s Lakeview neighbourhood.

The Peel Regional Police marine unit, in collaboration with firefighters, initiated a search and rescue mission to locate the distressed swimmer.

Shortly, before 7 p.m., Peel Regional Police confirmed that a man had been found dead in the water.

Authorities are now focusing their efforts on identifying the individual and notifying their next of kin.

The circumstances surrounding the incident and the cause of death remain under investigation.
