A woman is in critical condition in hospital following a crash Friday afternoon in East Gwillimbury.

Durham Regional Police say the eastbound travelling vehicle and the northbound moving dump truck collided at the intersection of York Durham Townline and Sandford Road shortly after 2 p.m.

The 90-year-old woman driving the car suffered life-threatening injuries and was rushed to a trauma centre in Toronto, while the dump truck driver stayed at the scene and cooperated with police.

Police have not provided any updates on the woman’s condition, and have not released her name or place of residence to the public.

Authorities have not confirmed whether there were any other passengers in the elderly woman’s vehicle at the time of the accident or if they sustained any injuries.

The DRPS Collision Investigation Unit members attended the scene to conduct an investigation. Roads in the area remained closed for several hours as evidence was gathered and have since reopened to motorists.

Anyone with information about this incident or witnesses to this collision is asked to call D/Cst Legge #3313 at 905-579-1520 ext. 5226.
