mississauga events winter

As harsh weather keeps many people at home, Mississauga has a line-up of events to get people out of the house these final two months of winter.

The City of Mississauga has released a list of events, including some family-friendly shows during March break.

Events this winter include concerts, comedy, film, sports and theatre with free parking during event times and budget-friendly tickets.

Here are eight events happening this February and March:

REEL Thursdays – The Best of the Best: Jazz from Detroit

REEL Thursdays at Living Arts Centre is a partnership with Film Circuit, presented by TIFF. The Best of the Best: Jazz from Detroit chronicles the defining influence of Detroit’s innovative musicians on jazz history, while also tracing the dramatic rise and fall of the city as an industrial power, the struggles and triumphs of its creative and resilient African American community, and the profound tradition of mentorship that has nurtured Detroit jazz since the 1950s.

This film is showing at the Living Arts Centre on Feb. 12. Get tickets here.

An Evening of Rock n’ Romance with the Dreamboats

The Dreamboats bring their high-energy, retro charm to The Living Arts Centre for a night packed with the feel-good sounds of the ’50s and ’60s. The Canadian quartet blends the vintage vibes of Chuck Berry and The Wonders with their own infectious energy. From Elvis’s pool to Ronnie Hawkins’ rock ‘n’ roll stories.

The show at the Living Arts Centre is on Feb. 14. Get tickets here.

Jump, Jive n’ Wail: A Tribute to Louis Prima

Frank Adriano Entertainment presents Jump, Jive n’ Wail: A Tribute to Louis Prima featuring Rocco Continenza and the Testifiers! This 8-piece band serves up the swingin’-est, wildest, and zaniest set of Louis Prima hits, including Buona Sera, Just a Gigolo and Angelina.

This show is at the Meadowvale Theatre on Feb. 22. Get tickets here.

Family Day Fun with the Jungle Book

The classic Mowgli stories burst to life using spectacular video, shadow-play and original music. Jungle Book will transport you from Mowgli’s childhood with the wolves, tigers, and elephants of India, to our urban jungle today. The hit show delves into themes of belonging and our relationship to the animal kingdom.

This show is an original adaptation of stories from Rudyard Kipling with all-new music and visuals. It is not Disney’s Jungle Book.

This show is on Feb. 16 at the Living Arts Centre. Get tickets here.

REEL Thursdays: Out Standing

Out Standing tells the story of Sandra Perron, Canada’s first woman infantry officer. Raised in a military family, Perron pursued her own dream of serving her country with great determination after joining the Canadian Forces in 1984. Perron faced challenges far beyond the gruelling physical demands and ugly instances of harassment and abuse. It was the institutional sexism that surrounded her in the Canadian military that arguably became her most relentless adversary. Out Standing succeeds first and foremost as a riveting portrait of a person whose outward tenacity masks deeper reservoirs of anger and vulnerability.

This showing is at the Living Arts Centre on March 12. Get tickets here.

A perfectly Reasonable Night of Comedy

Step out of the house for an unforgettable evening with Peter Oldring and Pat Kelly (CBC Radio’s This is That) as they reunite with Carolyn Taylor (Baroness von Sketch Show). These comedy powerhouses come together for the first time since their early days at The Second City to deliver a delightfully absurd and wildly entertaining variety show.

The show is at the Living Arts Centre on March 12. Get tickets here.

Under the Stars presented in collaboration with Crane Creations

With humour and simplicity, actors and puppets tell the famous story of Hansel and Gretel. Based on the original German tale written down by the brothers Grimm, Under the Stars revisits and adapts this exceptional story. It focuses on a brother and sister working together to face adversity and help each other get through difficult times. As a result, they emerge stronger than before.

This show is on March 14 at the Living Arts Centre. Get tickets here.

Raptors 905 games

The Raptors 905 of the NBA Gatorade League play home games at the Paramount Fine Foods Centre from November to March 26.
