An average of 9 is down from when Insauga reported an average of 12 cars stolen a day between June 3 and June 9.

Peel Regional Police continue to crack down on car theft in the region.

On June 20, officers from Caledon were called to a shipping yard on Coleraine Dr. in Bolton for reports of a stolen vehicle.

Upon arrival, police discovered three stolen luxury vehicles stashed in a shipping container that was scheduled to be shipped overseas.

The recovered stolen vehicles are a 2020 Land Rover Range Rover SVR, 2020 Lexus NX and a 2019 Maserati Levante 61G.

Police say all of the vehicles were reported stolen from the Toronto area.

To help lessen the likelihood of auto theft, police encourage residents to always roll up vehicle windows, lock the doors and pocket the key. Police also suggest taking advantage of your garage, locking the exterior door as well as your car door, and parking other vehicles behind high value vehicles to act as a deterrent to thieves.

Follow these additional tips to help prevent vehicle theft:

  • Install an aftermarket anti-theft device in your vehicle in a location not easily visible
  • Install a third-party GPS tracking device in the vehicle
  • Keep your vehicle key fobs in a Faraday Box
  • Never leave your vehicle unattended while it is running
