Hamilton Police are investigating after a 64-year-old man has died after being struck by a car last week in the city’s northeast end.

According to a police press release issued Tuesday (Aug. 17), the man was struck while crossing Barton Street at Grosvenor Ave. by a Blue Chevy Cruze travelling eastbound just after 10:30 p.m. on Aug. 11.

Emergency crews attended the scene and the man was taken to hospital with what at the time were considered non-life-threatening injuries.

Police said the man passed away on Monday (Aug. 16) as a result of his injuries.

“Hamilton Police Collision Reconstruction Unit now has carriage of the investigation,” police said.

“This is the City’s 8th traffic fatality of 2021.”

In an email to Insauga, a police spokesperson said that the driver of the Cruze remained on the scene and has been cooperating with the ongoing investigation.

“No provincial offence notices (tickets) have been issued at this time,” said Const. Indy Bharaj in the email.

Witnesses that have not yet spoken to police are urged to contact the Collision Reconstruction Unit at 905-546-4755.
