A Brampton man who says he came to Canada with just $300 in his pocket is now a millionaire five times over after winning a $5 million Lotto 6/49 jackpot.
Bridgemohan Neebar is an automotive industry worker in Brampton who says he regularly picks up lottery tickets as part of his weekly routine.
With a stack of weeks-old tickets in his car, Neebar decided to check the numbers while out shopping.
That’s when he learned he’d won the Aug. 6 Lotto 6/49 jackpot with a total of $5 million.
“My eyes went wide. Then I checked my ticket again to make sure it wasn’t a glitch in the system,” he said while picking up his winnings at the OLG prize centre.
Still not fully convinced of his win, Neebar checked a third time and asked the store clerk if the numbers were correct.
He returned home to share the news with his wife.
“I told her I needed to check something on my phone. Then I scanned the ticket using the OLG app, showed her the screen, and told her I won the lottery,” he said.
“She was in disbelief. We were calm, happy, and shocked at the same time.”
Neebar said it feels fantastic to win, and that “it’s even better than I dreamed.”
He says he’ll use the money to invest in his business.
“I came to Canada with $300 in my pocket. This money will allow me to create jobs and employ more people. This is a dream come true,” he said.
Lotto 6/49 offers players a chance to win two multi-million dollar jackpots every Wednesday and Saturday, for $3 per play. The OLG says it supports safe play and responsible gambling through its PlaySmart program.
The winning ticket was purchased at Circle K on Steeles Avenue East in Brampton.
