While it may be a new year, gun-related robberies continue to target Mississauga and Brampton residents.

From Dec. 24 to Jan. 23, police data indicates that a combined 51 robberies were reported across both cities, with Mississauga accounting for 31 and Brampton for 20.
Twenty of the robberies were carried out with guns, 16 with other weapons, and 15 were listed simply as “other” by police.
As of Saturday, five of these incidents are considered solved, 45 are still under investigation and one remains unsolved.

According to Peel Regional Police data, the five most common hotspots for this type of crime this month were:
- Cawthra Road —two occurrences
- City Centre Drive—three occurrences
- Eglinton Avenue—two occurrences
- Erin Mills Parkway—two occurrences
- Main Street—two occurrences
Here are some noteworthy robbery cases from this past month:

Additionally, police data doesn’t indicate how many arrests were made or injuries reported in relation to these robberies.
Peel Regional Police continue to share helpful safety tips for residents and businesses:
- Ensure you have a properly working surveillance system.
- Ensure you have proper lighting inside and outside your premises, and remember to maintain them.
- Provide all staff with robbery prevention training.
- Reduce the amount of cash on hand by making frequent cash drops.
- Have low shelving to improve the view of customers.
- Place your shelves in a way that allows employees to see between the aisles from the sales counter.
- Remove all excessive window signage or clutter from the sales area and other critical lines of sight.
- If a robbery happens, victims are advised to contact police immediately.
