A Brampton man has cashed in a $500,000 lottery win, a “blessing” he says he’ll share with his family.
George Morton is a grandfather of two from Brampton who says he’s been a regular lottery player for over 30 years, and buys tickets as “something fun for me to do.”
And after decades of playing, Morton just celebrated his first big win claiming second prize in the Sept. 22 Daily Grand draw.
“I thought there was a mistake,” he said when cashing in his winnings at the OLG prize centre in Toronto. “The screen said ‘$25,000 a year for life’ and I thought it was an advertisement until the lady said, ‘sir, this is your prize.’”
The retired father of three with two grandchildren said the win was “such an unreal feeling.”
“I told everyone in my family, and they were speechless.”
Morton took the lump sum for the win, cashing in at $500,000.
He said he plans to share the money with his family and loved ones.
“They’re my world, and I want to share this blessing with them,” Morton said.
Daily Grand has a top prize of $1,000 a day for life for matching the five main numbers plus the Grand Number. The second prize is $25,000 a year for life for matching the five main numbers.
The OLG says it supports safe play and responsible gambling through its PlaySmart program.
The winning ticket was purchased at Shoppers Drug Mart on Central Park Drive in Brampton.
