5 Pick-Your-Own Farms Near Mississauga

Farms across the province have fruits getting ready to be picked.
Got a recipe you want to try with fresh fruit? Or do you enjoy living the farm life for a day?
You'll need your own container at most farms and most don't permit bags. It's best to wear comfortable shoes and clothing you don't mind getting some mud on. It's also best to wear full sleeves to prevent any scratches you might endure from the branches.
Here's where you can go, container in hand and get picking!
Head to Stouffville and spend the day on the farm! Applewood Farm calls itself the home to the "heaping basket". There are a variety of strawberries you can pick, at different times during the season. There’s also a wagon ride to and from the patch. And, you can indulge in a glass of strawberry and rhubarb wine. Picking season here begins mid-June.
Farmers Mark and Laura welcome guests to pick apples and pears in September and October on Heritage Road in Brampton. You’ll find over 20 varieties of apples and three types of pears. You can take a wagon ride into the orchards, pick fresh fruits, make an apple pie, simply jump in the hay barn and shop from the barn market. Try out a day at the farm and you’re sure to go back next season too.
3) Downey’s Strawberry and Apple Farm
Along Heart Lake Road, Downey’s Farm in Caledon is a family farm, and it's run by a seventh generation farmer, so you’re in good hands! Bring a container along (no bags) and get picking! You can pick strawberries at the end of June. And, the raspberry picking season here begins on July 10 and will be open until August 1. Corn will be available for picking every weekend from August to October.
Located in Burlington, this farm offers rhubarb, asparagus, strawberries, pears and beets. You can also shop for herbs and lavender plants from the farm market. As we land in mid-June, you can head to the farm to pick red currants and raspberries in late June, In July, you can also pick black currants and of course, pumpkins in the fall.
The king of pick-your-own, Andrews Scenic Acres in Milton is the place to go if you’re really into pick-your-own. They already have begun their rhubarb picking, which will end mid-June. You can pick asparagus between mid-June to mid-July. And, from second week of July, you’ll have a variety of berries you can pick: black and purple raspberries, red and amber raspberries, red and black currants, cherries, gooseberries, plums. Blueberries too are ready to be picked once June begins. And come August, you’ll be able to pick corn, pears and apples.
