A tariff war is underway between Canada and the United States.

In response, many Canadians have said they’re looking to change their shopping habits to avoid buying American products.

In Ontario, the LCBO has pulled all U.S.-made products off of its shelves.

At the top of the LCBO website, it now reads “U.S. products are no longer available in response to U.S. tariffs on Canadian goods.”

The LCBO has a list of products that are made in Canada.

Below is a look at five hard seltzers or coolers that the LCBO offers at its stores and says are made in Canada.

1. Cottage Springs

Cottage Springs launched in 2018 with vodka sodas and now offers a wide range of products.

Its Ontario Peach-flavoured vodka soda beverage sells for $2.95 for a 355 ml can at the LCBO.

It has a five per cent alcohol content.

The popular brand is part of Ace Beverage Group, which calls itself “a fast-growing and innovative better-for-you beverage alcohol company based in Toronto.”

They also sell other brands.

It’s part of the larger Corby Spirit and Wine company.

2. Georgian Bay

“In 10 short years, Georgian Bay Spirit Co. has grown to become one of Canada’s most successful independent spirits companies with over 30 different products and flavours across a variety of formats, and more awards than we can count,” the company’s website says.

They’re located in Collingwood, Ontario.

A recent Instagram post from Georgian Bay Spirit Co. said they’re, “Canadian founded, Canadian owned, Canadian made.”

Another post added, “Proudly Canadian, always.”

One of their drinks, the Georgian Bay Gin Smash, sells for $3.25 for a 473 ml can at the LCBO.

It has five per cent alcohol content.

3. Black Fly

 

“The inspiration for the Black Fly name, the quality ingredients and real pure juices, Black Fly flavours, the unique packaging and lightweight non-breakable and convenient re-sealable bottles came from our roots in northern Ontario cottage country and our love of the Canadian outdoors and Canadian values,” Black Fly’s website says.

“Black Fly strives to work with as many local suppliers and trade partners as possible in an effort to support Ontario and Canadian businesses, celebrate Canadian talent, and reduce our environmental footprint by shopping local.”

They offer a wide variety of products.

One of those products, a four-pack of 400 ml bottles of Black Fly Vodka Cranberry, currently sells for $11.95 at the LCBO.

It’s alcohol content is seven per cent.

“In a landscape of global companies and imports, Black Fly offers a local and truly Canadian choice,” their website says.

4. Blue Lobster

From the Nova Scotia Spirit Co. comes Blue Lobster, which comes in a variety of flavours.

They’re based in Pictou County, Nova Scotia, with their production facility located in Stellarton, Nova Scotia.

For $3.25 at the LCBO, you can get a 473 ml can of Blue Lobster Vodka Soda Lemon Lime.

The drink has a six per cent alcohol content.

5. Jaw Drop

Jaw Drop says it’s “proudly Canadian.”

Its Jaw Drop Squirting Oranges is labelled a “best seller” on the LCBO website.

It sells for $3.15 for a 473 ml can at the LCBO and has a seven per cent alcohol content.

Jaw Drop comes in a variety of flavours.

For a full list of seltzers / coolers that the LCBO sells that are made in Canada, visit the Crown corporation’s website. In some cases, the product might be owned by a parent company that isn’t fully or even partly Canadian, but nevertheless, the LCBO says that the product sold at its stores is made in Canada.
