4 children injured in getaway crash after armed robbery at Mississauga gym: police

Two men involved in a serious collision that injured four children have been charged in relation to the crash and a robbery at a Mississauga gym, police say.

The two-vehicle crash happened on July 3 at the intersection of Ninth Line and Erin Centre Boulevard when the driver of a black Range Rover collided with a red Honda Civic, Peel Police Say.

Four children and one adult in the Honda were injured in the crash while the driver and occupant of the Range Rover fled on foot “without making any attempt to check on the well-being of the individuals involved in the crash,” investigators say.

The victims all suffered serious injuries, police say.

Police initially said “several victims” were taken to a trauma centre in life-threatening condition, and later said the victims are four children and one woman. Three of the children were later upgraded to stable condition.

Two of the young victims were children of the adult female victim, and the other two victims were friends of the children.

But investigators say the Range Rover was being followed by a red Ford Mustang following an armed robbery at a gym in Mississauga.

Both of the occupants of the Range Rover have been arrested and charged with multiple offences related to the robbery and crash, while the driver of the Mustang was also charged.

Police say Daijuan Buchanan, 18, of Brampton and Jahzyi Smith, 22, of Mississauga, have been charged with multiple offences, including robbery and unauthorized possession of a firearm. Jashanpreet Singh, 28, of Mississauga, was also charged with dangerous operation of a motor vehicle.

Buchanan and Smith were held for a bail hearing and appeared at the Ontario Court of Justice in Brampton, while Singh was released with conditions to attend court at a later date.
